I had not used my Epson 845 printer for several months and the black ink wouldn't print at all even after head cleanings. I like the kit because it is made for Epson printers and has a fake cartridge that fits in place rather than just attaching a tube like some systems I've seen. The instructions were fairly clear but they said to draw in 2 ml of solution into the syringe. Two problems with this... the bottle of solution has a nipple on it so you can't connect the nipple on the syringe to the nipple on the bottle. This was easily solved by removing the nipple from the bottle so there was an opening to put the syringe into. The second problem is that there are no markings on the syringe to indicate where 2ml is. By experimenting with another syringe I had, I determined the syringe provided held about 3ml so fill it about 2/3's full to get 2ml. There was a huge improvement after following the procedure... black began printing but the nozzle check still showed some gaps so I repeated the procedure which improved it even more but I still don't have a complete image on the nozzle check and I have some gaps when printing in draft mode. It looks good at higher quality print settings. Note that it says to run the head cleaning routine 2-3 times after the flushing. Once is enough. There was no further improvement after a second cleaning and that process uses a ton of ink. Bottom line, it got the printer working again if not perfectly. The real moral is don't let your printer sit for long periods of time without being used.

Update 11/3/13: The black ink is now working perfectly. I have been using it in "fine" mode for the last week and decided to do another nozzle check and it showed 100%. Switched it to economy mode and it is great. It looks like it took some printing to really work things through. Again, I would not run the head cleaner repeatedly (maybe once) as that doesn't help much and uses a lot of ink. Just keep printing at higher quality and it may work itself out.

However, I first must say this arrived in two days of it being ordered and when I refilled the ink, it can out nicely. Each 30 ml bottle fills the cartridge full so for $10 you can refill your ink cartridge 3 times! I would recommend this if you are interested in refilling the cartridge yourself

This drum works fine for me. It lasts about 30,000 pages, or 6 months, and is an acceptable lifetime.

What most people don't realize is that when you buy other similar printers, you end up paying much more for your toner and drums because the drum unit is part of the toner cartridge. Brother splits them out to keep the cost of your toner cartridges down.

I've found that the annual toner + drum cost for a HL-5240 is about 30% less than the toner for a similar HP.

I'm surprised to see the negative reviews for the Brother brand drums. I'm on my second MFC all-in-one device. My first one gave me reliable use to 78,000 copies before it croaked (bad fuser) and I immediately went out and bought another Brother to replace it. The MFC-8860DN is my current model and I've already logged 26,000 copies on it. Over the last few hundred copies, it started making a grinding noise and slightly wrinkling my copies, so knowing it was time for drum replacement, went ahead and ordered one. I once tried a 'refurbished' or aftermarket version which didn't hold up for 10,000 copies, so I've stuck with the Brother brand when it comes to Drums. I consistently got 20,000 copies on my last printer drums, and got 25,000 on this one. I don't know what more you can expect at this price point! I did NOT buy my drum from this website, as I found it for less elsewhere. I like brother printers because the toner cartridges are so easy to refill! I buy toner by the bulk off an auction site, and I'm able to refill each cartridge about 3 times before I begin to see a quality loss. Between the low toner cost and the high output of original OEM Brother drums, I'm skating out cheap! Quality is top notch.

This is the 3rd Drum for our Brother printer that we have ordered as being "new". They have all in fact been re-manufactured.

The reason I know they are not new is that re manufactured drums will not clear out the "please replace drum soon" code on the printers menu and if you inspect the drum, you can find toner still inside the drum from the last time it was used.

Also the box appears genuine, but when you open the box, the bag that the drum comes in is not factory sealed by brother, but in fact folded over and taped.

I do not want the hassle of returning it, but unfortunately in the future I will order from office depot as they still seem to be able to sell the drums new.

I own two of these drum units. I was disappointed that the drum was failing only after about 8000 prints. I found toner buildup on the drum cylinder. The problem was corrected by replacing the toner cartridge not the drum. Possibly it was defective toner cartridges causing premature drum failure.

The Brother DR520 drum was advertised as 25000 pages typical use. I did not get to 9000 before the left side of the paper started to have a permanent black streak that kept getting wider and wider. By 10000 pages, the drum on that side was "slap wore out" as they say around here. I give the drum a one out of five stars. On the other hand, the replacement was dropped in and it printed like new again, so a five for ease of replacement. Overall I will give it the average of the two, a three star rating.

i was a little worried when i ordered off brand cartridges. when compared to an hp printer they have duller color in normal print mode, but outshine hp in photo mode (go figure). i dont understand why!?! i used the same kind of inkjet paper and photo paper for the tests. the hp had first run hp cartridges, the brother had these off brand cartridges. in photo printing, the brother had brighter reds, blue'er blues, and crisper blacks!!

I've used these "will fit" cartridges from several suppliers and for several brother printers over the years and I have yet to get a bad one. In my opinion the color is better than the OEM cartridge, which cost more than this whole 10 cartridge pack. I think these print even better color photos than the OEM cartridges do as well seems more vivid and true to color.

My order was supplied by "BuyITeasy" and I got an even better deal than the stated 14mL size. I actually received XXL 20mL Color super hi yield cartridges and 30mL Black cartridges. Almost twice the advertised amount. Of course, I can only say this is what I received, you may receive as advertised. I also noted that I could buy two of these 10 packs for less than one of the 16 packs that I bought on my last order (which were the 14ml size).

I buy the Brother MFC wireless printers when they are on sale at my local office supply store in the $50-$70 range as a spare. I usually get about 2 years+ out of one before I receive some sort of error message that requires repair. The repair cost the same as replacement when you consider repair charge + shipping + hassle, which I believe is the point, so that you don't bother with the repair and just purchase a new one. Every new printer has a different cartridge fit (on purpose I am sure), so I don't want to have any more $$$ tied up in on hand cartridges than necessary when the old printer does die.

I remain more than satisfied with my Brother "will fit" cartridge experience and recommend them highly for your Brother printer.

I have the Dell Inkjet Printer V313w. The Dell replacement ink cartridges ran out of ink after less than 30 pages of printing! I only use my printer occasionally in my home office and kept careful records on how many pages were printed. The price for a Dell single use replacement cartridge was over $25, so I knew I needed to find a less expensive product. This cartridge has been perfect! It only needs minor adjustments to work in the Dell V313w printer and the company provided excellent customer service to enable me to adapt it for my printer. (Note that using a non-Dell ink cartridge will void your warranty). I have had no problems and it continues to provide excellent print results.

This is a standard international cartridge, with solidly performing black ink. If I could give 4.5 stars, I would, but I felt that the ink should be a little darker for me to give a "velvet black" ink a full 5 star rating.

These are great cartridges at a great price. The black is nice and rich, and the ink flows nicely without clogging. I wasn't sure if I'd like the shorter length, but it's actually better because there's room in the barrel of my pen to have one in use and one in reserve, so my pen will never run out of ink!

The problem with the February 2010 review (below) is that the rating should have been directed towards the vendor selling the item, not the item itself. I ordered this item from "attiger3" and it was genuine Canon ink cartridges in one of those impossible to open plastic clamshell packages. I was going to submit a photo, but it looks exactly like the one shown with the item.

I have always used Canon ink in my Canon printers. The one time I didn't, the knock-off cartridges literally killed my printer. To me, Canon's product is superior to other manufacturers. Photos printed a number of years ago are still bright and clear with no discernable fading, even after being exposed to bright light.

A word of advice: if you select another vendor other than "attiger3", send them an email via Amazon and simply ask them if the item is genuine Canon. That's a pretty simple thing to do.

I was looking for genuine Canon ink cartridges. these are some generic brand NOT Canon. No where in the literature does it say that it is not OEM or Canon. The only place is on the packing slip and invoice -after it's too late. you already paid for it.
