Finally the ink cartridges are a little more affordable in this combo pack. Save around $7 over buying them separately. These are the high-yield cartridges, which do seem to last a reasonable amount of time.

When I recently got a new printer, I decided to stick with the name-brand cartridges, as I had a lot of problems with my old one possibly due to using re-manufactured cartridges–clogged jets, poor print quality. Now that I only use the name brand new cartridges, I haven't had any quality problems at all. Worth the extra expense.

I needed to print 4 booklets, 17 pages 8.5x11 inches each plus a cover. The pages are pretty colorful with background images, embedded images, borders and text in color. My old cartridges ran out just as I was about to start, so the capacity info that I'm about to give you is based on that single print job.

I printed the cover plus one other page at "Photo quality" (total of 9 sheets because I printed 1 incorrectly and had to re-do). For the remaining 16 pages (total 66 because of 2 re-do's) I allowed the printer to set the quality. All pages were on 24 pound HP Inkjet paper. I used the "Borderless" option for all pages.

After printing, 11 of 12 bars on the Ink Status scale remained for the Black cartridge. Only 5 of 12 bars remained for the color. My experience with Lexmark printers and cartridges is that they still have several pages left when the scale reads zero.

The print quality was quite good. Several of the people who saw the finished product wanted to know what kind of printer was used. Good uniform color with no smearing or blurring.

Be careful that you know where these are coming from when you order them. I think the complaints in some of the reviews here about re-filled cartridges may be because they were purchased from one of the 3rd party sellers. I got mine directly from Amazon. They were brand new, factory sealed Lexmark OEM cartridges.

EDIT: A few days after posting this, I did my Federal and State Tax Returns (with TaxCut). Each return was about 8 pages, so with copies of each that's about 32 pages. No effect on Color Ink Status, 1 more bar consumed on Black Ink Status.

We all know you can buy cheaper Ink elsewhere, but in the printer cartridge market, you definitely get what you pay for. I have had very bad experiences with off-brand cartridges, especially for Lexmark printers for some reason, so I always find myself coming home to buying the original OEM cartridges, and paying the extra money. These extended / high yield cartridges really are amazing in how much ink they hold. It seems like forever between cartridge changes using the high yield. I don't even bother with the standard yield cartridges anymore ..... these are a much better value.

This ink works great for general use. I like the high yield because in the long run its cheaper. Also it's more green, because instead of buying the box and cartridge twice a year you only buy it once. Saving on packaging and fuel used to ship.

I won't go back to buying any cartridges on any other website and definitely not from the retailer. These last just as long and I was buy refilled cartridges already but I was paying more for them. I am a long time customer, very satisfied.

The Hi Yield black cartridge worked for a short time...maybe a dozen or two pages...Now my printer will not recognize the cartridge. I put the old HP cartridge back in...it recognized it and printed, despite the low ink status...but it really needs a new cartridge. Back and forth several times and always the same, the new black cartridge is no longer recognized by the printer.

When you get a good cartridge, it works beautifully. But there can be two problems when you buy a discounted one (the full priced ones are dishonestly expensive about half the price of the printer itself!): 1) it may be old stock and so the ink quality may be deficient and/or the head has deteriorated so the print quality is poor, 2) it may not be a full cartridge but a "tester" that only prints for a short time and then runs out of ink. Most sellers [or actually resellers of such older/remaindered stock] do not clearly state what you are getting, but misleadingly implying that if the package is unopened then the cartridge is "new". I have found too many times [in trying to save money] that they are selling substandard merchandise either ones that are too old or testers [or both]. My luck runs about 50% on them. The ones I've bought on Ebay have been worse; the ones on Amazon somewhat better. The date of manufacture is engraved on the bottom of the cartridges. Likewise, I've read that the full cartridges have a serial # ending in zero, while the testers don't. However you can't determine either when buying online. Maybe Lexmark likes to keep things this way to get people to buy the full priced ones and not take chances on the discounted ones.

I have used this ink in my Canon Pixma MG 2120. If you school going kids then this is very good ink for ordinary purpose. But if you want high quality printing or for office use, I will recommend original ink. The drill for making a whole is so small that you can use it easily. I made the whole in the cartridge with hot needle. I have not used this ink for photo printing on photo paper. I think it as good choice for ordinary purpose printing.

This ink used my canon pixma mp495 printer. some times my printer shows that ink cartridge is empty...........i dont know is this a cartridge problem or ink problems...

This product got greasy steak juice stains out of a sweatshirt that had been washed at least 6 times. It did take two washes but who cares. It got Sharpie stains out of a carpet. I have found nothing that it will not work on. You cannot go wrong with this stuff. I make sure we always have it in the house. Just apply it to the stain, scrub a bit with a brush and then throw the item in the wash -it comes out great. This is absolutely one of the top five, handy products you need to keep around the house. It actually does what it says......

...but it's not exactly the perfect ink stain remover. Sorry, I wanted to like this product but I would not rely on it. I tested it out on a stainless steel sink and I had to resort to the scouring pad after attempting removal with this lanolin ink remover. Tried it on my hands, same story. It's a nice idea but I am afraid it's no match for today's high saturation inks.

My first PG 40 lasted only 2 months, disappointing as cartridge cost was one of deciding factors in buying my Canon Pixma MP 170. $20 (Staples) was low compared to previous printer cartridge but not for two month usage. With next cartridge, I used "fast" print option and continued to use for 1-2 months after "low ink" message appeared, this one lasted 5-6 months, which is o.k. for cost. I then had one refilled at Cartridge World and it lasted only 45 days, tho I was doing somewhat more printing during that time period. Use "fast/draft" option,and ignore low print message,--just print till it's out of ink ----and it will last much longer. I will probably buy from Amazon as cost is lower (providing you order $25 and get free S & H) and this is hard to find in my area.

I have used Canon printers for years. I recommend them to people for their low per-page costs...

Those that use THIS cartridge though, are an exception. This cartridge has an in-cartridge ink counter that tells me I'm out of ink way before I actually do run out of ink. Additionally, the counter cannot be reset, so there is no refill market on these forcing you to buy retail.

I bought an MP470 printer on 9/4/08. I put in a full black ink cartridge (PG-40)and made no more than 30-35 copies on regular paper. It shows that it needs to be replaced. I called Canon and was told that the average number of pages would be 355 for one PG-40 cartridge. I thought the cartridge might be defective but the tech support person tells me that it would show an "error" on the printer if that was the case.

I will continue to use the cartridge until it totally runs out of ink but I am very unhappy with the number of pages I was able to print.

The only problem I have had is that occasionally my printer will say it doesn't recognize the ink cartridge, even after it has been in the printer for a while. The ink quality in this cartridge is great, but unfortunately the cartridge design is awful. The inside of the cartridge is about 3/4 sponge and 1/4 ink "well." My Canon MG5220 registers an ink cartridge as empty when the well is empty, regardless of how much ink is in the sponge, and will not run if a cartridge registers as empty. Most cartridges are mostly "well" so this is not much of a problem, but since the "well" portion of this cartridge is so small, I got only about 5 weeks usage out of these before I had to replace the color cartridges (haven't used the black yet). For those 5 weeks I only used my color ink for printing coupons, that's it. I seriously doubt that I got 50 pages from these cartridges. When I went to replace the cartridges, the sponges were absolutely saturated with ink. Sadly, I can't tell that to my printer. Don't waste your money.

The problem I had with these cartridges which I have not had in the past is they are slightly pressurized. When you open the caps ink drips out about 5 to 10 drops. I had to clean my carpet and the blue covered two fingers. I personally still find the savings to be worth it. I was able to install them and they worked fine.

I normally need to replace my printer cartridges very rarely. I don't print very frequently and when I do it my printer is usually set to draft to conserve ink. These cartridges were empty after only a few print jobs and under a month from their purchase. I wouldn't recommend buying these.
