I've had this printer for six years, and it hasn't given me any problems during this long duration. 100s of pages per cartridge, great print quality, the fax still works, saves my dad a lot of money to use its photocopier AND helped me get A+ on all my Geography projects in school! If you can get it for a fair price, get it!

I have had the HP OfficeJet V40 for over 8 year now and the printing quality is still great. Scanning and fax works perfectly. The printer has has great device controls which are useful especially when using the print with Windows Vista becuase it does not recgoinse the printer's software. The printer can be nosiy but nothing above the normal noise that is heard during printing. The only problem is the high ink costs. The contorl pannel is very well layouted out and the menus are easy to understand. Overall it is an awesome product with great printing quality and excellent easy to read instrusctions.Honest reviews on HP Officejet v40 All-in-One (C8416A)
Hp Officejet v40Printer-Fax-Scanner-Copier
While the HP v40 is no longer being produced I thought I'd do a short review on it for folks who might be considering buying a used one . If I remember correctly, I purchased my v40 in 2000. It has turned out to be a real workhorse printer for the home office. When originally purchased the v40 produced crisp color and sharp quality black & white prints. In fact I would often bring work home to print because the clarity of the prints was better than our office printer at the time. As time has moved on several features have began to fail. The Scanner & Fax went out first, after using the printer every day for 6 years, (or it could have been the cat's hair ball that fried it, I'm not sure). Not a bad run for a "non-industrial" quality printer. My only complaint about the v40 is the cost of the ink. The v40 takes the HP 78 Color & HP 15 B&W. These are fairly robust cartridges and produce a decent amount of prints before they need changing, but boy when they do. Generally the cost is around $70 to replace both cartridges, (I am including our very high sales tax in this figure). As I am a fairly high volume home user we go through 2 or 3 a month, needless to say, that's an ouch! Another note on the v40 is don't use cheep knock-off/refill cartridges, they don't work well and you end up buying the HP's anyway.
Alas, it is now time to retire the old v40, after around eight years of good, fairly heavy service. I only hope that the v40's replacement can serve half as well.
On an interesting side note, my v40 still prints fine and has outlasted 4 computers. Not a bad run.

I do a lot of printing. I am still very happy with it. No complaints. :)
Spencer, no this is not the first comment I have made on a printer. :) I believe it is important to update reviews for those interested in buying this machine, and for those considering buying from this seller. I had no problems with shipping, packing, etc.
Thank you for reading,

My CURRENT HP OFICEJET V40 machine is STILL working in AAAAA++++ conditions!
I have had no problems with it at all. I am still very pleased with this printer.
The ink costs me $70.00 for a twin pack. I have not used any refill kits or any refurbished ink cartridges with this one, and it has not given me any problems like the last one I owned did. I would suggest buying brand new ink kits, expensive, but well worth it. I get a ton of printing out of them. And when I run out of the black, usually the color runs out soon after, so buy both cartidges at the same time to save you a trip back to the store for more ink. Twin Packs are cheaper to buy too instead of buying them separately.
This printer runs louder than some, but, not so loud that it bothers me. There are NO loud malfunctioning grinding noises with this one, thank God. If I ever do need a new hp officejet v40, I will come back here to see if I can get another one. I'm sorry, I am hooked.
There is no flat bed on it, but, the price and quality is worth the money I spend on it. It does everything else I need from it. I have had NO problems at all with this one.

This review is mostly based on my older printer, not the one I just bought. I have a older(bought in 2002-2004)model like this one already with minor changes, but,it had started making an awful LOUD grinding noise when it was printing. I cleaned the built up ink out,but it did not help.
It still works, but the grinding is nerve wrecking. Just my luck,it started making noise after the extended warrenty ran out.
This older machine had always been very dependable for me and my needs. I print out ALOT of high volume homeschooling lessons,so it has held up where other machines I own have not held up at all. I also use it for so many other things business wise too. My fiance' is his own boss, and has to have things printed up all of the time.
Aside from the black and color ink being somewhat costly,I will take this machine over all of the rest I have tried out so far.
(My Epson Stylus broek down, and my Lexmark no longer wants to suck the paper in. These 2 are not old, and both broke down before I really got to use them much.)
The HP officejet v40 ink cost is not a major issue for me because the work and progress it puts out is well worth the price I spend on it's ink.
It does not always like the refurbished cartriages,I found that out on my own.
My older o.j v40 model like this one grinds & is a ink hog. It seemed to be suckig down the ink faster after the grinding started.
I doubt the ink prices have changed all that much for the ink,so I do shop around trying to find it the cheapest I can without it coming in reburbished cartriages. I do like getting the refillable kits, as that helps save n ink prices. It is messy too though.
I love the many things that I can do with this machine. It is like having my own small business in just my machine.
I am going to be trying my new one out to see if it is just as dependable as a home business type, and is as dependable as my old one is.
