I purchased the Dataproducts Inkjet Refill Kit on the advice of Consumer Reports. (This is for my old Canon Pixma ip3000 printer, using the Canon BCI-3e inkjet cartridges.) Dataproducts' kit was the only one that CR claims is easy to use, doesn't leak ink, etc. After reading the instructions I found that I was unable to depress the valve where I was supposed to insert the refill needle. I contacted customer support and they immediately answered the phone; they emailed me some further and more specific instructions for my particular cartridge. Still no luck. I phoned again and they suggested I return the kit for a refund. Since shipping was a substantial fraction of the total cost, I decided to try my luck with some more serious DIY ideas. I had picked up the idea of using a glowing hot paper clip to poke a hole in the cartridge & to fill it that way. I poked this hole on the part of the cartridge that is the hollow chamber that holds the ink (NOT the side that is filled with cotton), on the side that faces up when the cartridge is installed in the printer, under the label which I had peeled up. On one cartridge I used tape to seal the port that lets the ink out (the hole about the size of a pencil eraser that faces down when the cartridge is installed.) In another I used the original orange plastic cap that I had saved. Then I filled the empty part of the cartridge till it was about 80% full and I took my time, taking 2 3 minutes to fill it. I then sealed the little paper clip hole with a drop of glue from my hot glue gun. I let it set in my stainless steel kitchen sink for about 20 minutes to allow it to finish dripping and to allow the pressure within the chambers to equalize. (Both cartridges leaked regardless of how I had sealed the port.) Voila! both printed perfectly.

This will save me a lot of money and I'm happy I bought it. However I wound up using none of the tools that were included in this kit, only the accordian shaped plastic ink bottles with the attached hypodermic needles. If you could buy these elsewhere without the tools you'd save a couple of dollars. Also be forewarned that these cartridges leaked like crazy during refill (though not in the printer). So make sure you do this job in an area where you don't mind a mess or can easily clean it up. Also be sure to take your time putting the ink into the cartridge and give it 20 or more minutes to rest before using it. With that in mind, you can save a lot of bucks and get great looking prints on the Canon Pixma ip3000 if you don't mind a bit of a hassle.

This product can be used for many more inkjet cartridges than it lists in its included booklet. You just can't use the "cracker" designed to pop the tops off the cartridges. Its alot less messy to use than refill kits that have the syringe style bottles. Those require you to attach a straight needle to the end of the syringe before filling, where this kit uses an angled type that is already sealed and attached to the bottle. Its a very cost effective way to keep your printer running.

Very nice refill kit is complete with several tools to access ink cartridges for refilling. I thought best part was the ink bottles equipped with long thin steel applicators, so you can inject ink directly instead of using a syringe like other kits. Print quality looks fine.

First time refilling my own ink cartridge. The product was in perfect condition and well packed. Actually, it's a lot of ink and will probably last a long time. I used this kit to refill a HP22 ink cartridge.

I've used plenty of ink refill kits and this one, with the needles attached to the bottle, is the ONLY kind to use, imho. Look for instructions for your specific cartridge online with a google search, then go for it. I've never had any problems with our printer using refill ink.
