Even after doing all things the manual suggested I still had problems of banding and getting the colors to work properly.

If your printer is over the warranty period, and you paid for that printer-you ,,,not HP,, own the printer!!
You can put by law use any ink product you want in that printer!!! You ,,not HP own that printer!

Company has serious quality control issues. I had to return two printheads before I got one that worked properly. The ink in first printhead had all leaked out into the package. I washed it off and tried to install it in the printer but it gave me a printhead error that would not clear. The second printhead worked but printed poorly. The third printhead worked perfectly. I believe it is probably worth the risk, considering the big cost difference ($45 for their refurb vs $79 for new one) and that they will replace defective units.
