Update 3/6/13: Had a problem where my printer would no longer print black. Sent an e-mail to their technical support and got a quick reply and call. Was told that the manufacture change the design slightly and you now need to keep the cartridges more than half full or you can run into this problem. So don't let your cartridges run low.
Their sending me out a kit to fix the problem, free of charge. Still very happy with this product and their support has been great.

This is a good product, costs about the same as a new set of cartridges but lasts much longer. I've been printing for months and I cant see any lowering of ink level. I got a used hp 8500a printer with no ink for 50.00, installed this, ran it through a few cycles, now I'm in business. Wish I would have gotten the 8500a plus, it has a bigger screen. HP's new 8600 printer uses a different cartridge, the 950. I like the 940 much better, I'm going to next get the 4 500 ml bottles of ink and I'll probably be set for life. The black gave some trouble at first, put a used hp 940 cartridge in, made some copies, put the inkowl back in, now works ok. These tanks are huge, I do wish they would have curved them up verticle where the ink goes in, just don't trust those rubber plugs on the end to hold back all of that ink. You don't have to fill them that much though, I put half a bottle of the ink that came in the kit and that's plenty. I got tired of paying for expensive ink cartridges, so I started buying the refilled ones. The issue with the refilled ones is that you never know when you're going to run out of ink. The advantage of the InkOwl is that you can literally "see" the amount of ink remaining so you never have to worry about running out.The pro's: Once installed, there is absolutely no difference between the printing as that of the "normal" HP cartridges. As I mentioned, you can see how much ink is left so you won't run out. Also, even though the initial outlay is over $100, in the long run, this is a money saving move.
The con's: The instructions are not that great, which caused me a little bit of a mess to get started. You have to mess with the chips that are provided in order to align them properly so that the printer will recognize them. Don't get ink on any of the filters that are provided because they don't provide any extra, and even though they only cost 5 cents a piece to order more, shipping is $3.95 for a nickel component that weighs less than 1 ounce!!! It was a little difficult to install these to begin with, but nothing a little patience can't overcome.
Overall, after getting them installed and working, I've been very happy with them. I've even printed several photos and the quality is great. I would recommend using InkOwl to replace your usual cartridges, just plan on spending a little time getting them installed.
