I purchased these in April 2008 and they have a "Must be used within 6 months of April 2008 for warranty to apply" date on them.
My local retailer has the same cartridges with "January 2009" as the date.
I thought I was being proactive by buying extra cartridges and but I doubt I will use these in 6 months.
Next time I purchase a product with a limited shelf life I think I will stick with a local retailer so I know that I am getting a newer product.
Amazon If you all are reading the reviews... For products with a limited shelf life figure out a way to let your customers know this ahead of time. Also consider discounting products that are nearing the end of their shelf lives. Otherwise you won't be able to compete with local retailers.
08-2013 Number of stars changed to 5. It was pointed out to me that it isn't fair to HP to give their product a low rating because a vendor is selling nearly expired products.

If you make the mistake of ordering from 77INK, you will get "generic" blue and white packaged, remanufactured garbage NOT "Original HP 98 Black Ink Cartridge Twin-Pack, Retail Packaging"
Best Deals for HP 98 C9514FN#140 Ink Cartridge in Retail Packaging, Twin Pack-Black
This is the best price I've found for HP 98 black ink cartridges in the two-pack. I would prefer to buy a re-manufactured cartridge, but, if you own an HP 6000 series inkjet printer, you're aware the machine won't work with any other cartridge brand. (Had I known this before I bought the printer, I would have chosen another brand, but am stuck with it for a while.)Therefore, if I can save a bit on the expensive ink cartridges, I'm pleased. I was glad to find the twin-pack at a better price on Amazon than at a local store.
Honest reviews on HP 98 C9514FN#140 Ink Cartridge in Retail Packaging, Twin Pack-Black
Was not shipped in original packaging box but cartridge was in original inner packaging. Cartridge was expiring this month (per date stamped on cartridge) but I suspect they took it out of the box because the box is stamped with the expiration date.

These cartridges came out-of-box wrapped in a piece of brown paper. There was a note saying this is a less wasterful (sic) solution to protect our environment. Well, OK. I'm for that, but it was a bit of a surprise. This is not how the product was represented. There is some info on the box that I don't get to see, such as the use-by date. I hate all that packaging, so I am glad they do this; but the practice must evolve to include all the information on the cartridge wrap.
