The 105XL cartridge can be modified to work with the any printer that uses the 100 or 100XL.

The 100, 100XL and 105XL are all the SAME physical cartridge, just with different size ink fills.

The 105XL physically fits into the S605 with no modification. When installed, the printer says "unsupported ink cartridge." How does it know, seeing as it's just an ink well and not a print head? Under the label at the top is an RFID chip. All you have to do is swap the chip with an 100 or 100XL cartridge and the 105XL will work in your Lexmark printer. Happy printing!

Lots of confusion on 100XL and 105XL--For the Pro 901the cartridge that came with Printer was 105XL. I purchased some 105XL cartridges and have replaced one already.

For the Pro 901-everything thing worked great,Lexmark website even shows it to be compatible.

But Amazon shows "NO this will not work for your printer" I'm sure that on other Lexmark printers you may have to change the chip. Maybe this will be helpful to someone

As the previous review mentioned, you can swap this cartridge in place of a much higher priced 100 or 100xl cartridge. I just peeled back the label and cut the plastic piece holding the RF ID down. Then swapped it to the new cartridge and placed some scotch tape on it to hold it down.

The only downside is that the printer still thinks it is low on ink, since the ink counter doesn't get reset. The printer still thinks you have the old cartridge in there. Oh well. Just ignore it and keep printing.

One other tip, make sure you have it pressed in all the way into the printer. Mine didn't work at first, it looked like it was still out of ink. Then I reseated it firmly and it worked.

XL my foot! These things run out before they are detected as being out. There is no way you are getting 500 prints from this. I print a lot and the ad for the printer that takes this cartridge said that it can print 500 pages. This is a lie, you might print 1/3. Im constantly putting new cartridges in AND there is a chip in them that prevents you from refilling them. You can refill the cartridge but it will still say it is empty and prevent you from continuing to print.

I just installed the Lexmark 105XL black cartridge in my Prevail Pro705. All you have to do is peel-back the label on both cartridges. The RFID chip is easy to locate. Just remove the chip from the 100XL black cartridge and replace it on the 105 cartridge. Very easy. Ignore the "Ink Is Low" warning, and you're good to go. 100XL black cartridges cost around $26.00. 105XL cartridges cost $5.00. Lexmark is ripping us off by claiming the 105XL cartridge will not work in 100XL compatible printers. The only difference is the RFID chip. The print quality between the two cartridges is exactly the same. Hope this helps.
