After a couple years light use, my 6500 stopped printing black. I tried a new ink cartridge and soaking/cleaning my old printhead, and still no black. I replaced the printhead with this, and it works. A $40 gamble to save the printer and all the spare cartridges I happen to have at the moment. It paid off. Your experience may differ :-(

Out of the blue our HP Officejet 6500 stopped printing black. We tried cleaning the print heads, aligning the cartridges, and even replacing the black cartridge. After a little investigation we read that replacing the print head would solve the problem, and it did. The replacement print head was easy to install and now the printer prints both black and color as good as new.

I purchased this for a HP Officejet 6500 Wireless, model E709n. The product is working great and has restored my printer back to new print specs.

I initially had a problem with installation and emailed customer service. They were extremely prompt in responding back within a couple of hours, and I was able to resolve the question with two emails. I was getting an Ink System Failure alert and no matter what I did--unplugging the power plug, cleaning the printhead, nothing worked. I bought this printhead from InkPlusToner through Amazon.com for $34.48 (no shipping!!). It came in the mail within two days and my printer immediately started working again. The HP technician that helped me initally wanted to sell me another upgraded but refurbished printer for about $130 saying that he didn't have a printhead to sell me. I would encourage anyone to try replacing the printhead first and you may get a few more years out of your printer.

Well I had my doubts about troubleshooting my own problem. Turns out I got it right and this product was just the key. So if anyone ever sees INK SYSTEM ALERT try to replace the print head.
