Although the picture & description is of the Brother ink cartridge, the actual item shipped was a no-name "compatible" cartridge. It may work, I don't know, but the marketing is deceptive, and for a copy it's actually overpriced.

Quality and price good deal. These are genuine Brother ink carts in original vacuum packaging, not remanufactured. Many ink carts on the web are remanufactured, but the listing does not make it obvious. This price is almost the lowest for new brand-name black, cyan, and yellow (why is magenta price much higher ??). When I tried the least expensive source, they were genuine but outdated or nearly so probably surplus. These were very fresh, carts dated 2009.05 expiration (purchased 2007.09)

Okay, they have corrected the photo now, so I really should not complain, but it was a hassle. They pictured a full set of cartridges and then only sent a yellow one, the only color that I did NOT need. And why pay so much for the cartridge when you get it for a few dollars less with free shipping direct from Amazon?

Honest reviews on Brother LC41Y Ink Cartridge, 400 Page Yield, Yellow

Is it true that using a Brother MFC-5440CN printer to ONLY print black text emails and word processing documents will also consume the three color ink tanks?

It seems to be true because that is the case with a friend's printer: she never printed color and all three color tanks have run dry and, unless the 3 color tanks were replaced, the printer refused to continue printing in simple black.

The main complain is the problem with the knock offs being read by the machine which gives an "empty cartridge" message. The OEM are more apt to read by the machine with no errors. The price of OEM ink is very cost prohibitive for my business use, I purchased several knock off brands and had some trouble with printer not reading correct ink levels. I am on the fence with a repurchase of this ink because the price it so low. In the case I find a dud to have to repurchase is a nominal financial lost only a inconvenience to reorder and replace.

Pros: Price, Fast shipping

Cons: Few Duds "empty cartridge" error message.
