I placed a new black cartridge in my printer and it only registered 1/3 full on the ink level indicator. Amazon processed my return with no problems. Thanks Amazon :)

I was not pleased with the product I recieved. Without question, the company apologized and shipped an entire replacement set (which work just fine). This company stands behind their product.

My HP 8500 A910n printer has a love/hate relationship with these cartridges. The 3 colors have been working fine but I periodically get an error from the printer concerning the black cartridge. I don't remember the exact wording now but it was something like "unsupported" or "not genuine" and the printer stops until the error is cleared. All I do is pop the cartridge out and pop it back in and the printer is happy again.

None of the cartridges correctly report the levels of ink remaining. The 3 color ones always show completely full and the black one always shows almost empty. I'm going to have to keep a spare set of cartridges for the day when these suddenly run out.

Considering the difference in price between these cartridges and OEM the issues I listed above are no big whoop. They work, they have quirks and idiosyncrasies, and they're attractively priced.

Edited 06/28/2013: I just got the error again on the black cartridge. Here is the message that shows up on the printer's screen:

"The following ink cartridges appear to be missing or damaged

K

Replace the ink cartridges to resume printing"

As I said above, removing the cartridge and re-inserting it clears the error and printing resumes. It's annoying but not show stopping. I'm more concerned about the ink levels not being reported correctly.

Edited 07/18/2013 Several of the cartridges are now giving error messages and it finally reached the point where removing and re-inserting the cartridge would no longer remove the error message. A set of cartridges normally lasts me 6-8 months; these have lasted only about 2. I believe they could last longer but the errors are preventing them from functioning. I don't believe they are empty or close to it.

I had high hopes for these cartridges. However, I've come to the decision that buying them is false economy. It irritates the hell out of me how much HP gouges us for ink cartridges but I'm going to have to use theirs. My printer doesn't get a lot of use but I don't have the time or the patience to keep futzing around with defective cartridges.

Rating has been dropped to 1-star.

I am raising the rating back up. I can't justify going above 3 stars because of all the issues I've had but I have to acknowledge Sophia Global's top-notch customer service. They read my review and left a comment asking me to contact them. I sent an email and this morning I received a phone call (a *PHONE* call! not an email!) They apologized for the problems I had been having and explained that some batches of cartridges had gone out without the chips properly reset. They explained step-by-step how a combination of cartridge issues and my attempts to work around them had made things seem worse than they really were. My career was in IT and I understood the technical parts of the explanation. They're issuing a full refund for the entire order and sending me a lagniappe for my inconvenience.

I had read all the reviews before I ordered these cartridges and saw that, where there were problems, Sophia Global worked hard at resolving them with the customer. I have to say my own experience has borne this out. I've already purchased genuine HP cartridges (at HP's outrageous prices) so I should be good for another year or so. When the time comes I am going to have to decide whether I continue to line HP's pockets or give Sophia Global another chance. I may order from Sophia Global and, if the cartridges don't register properly when they're inserted, return them to Amazon. I don't want to go through another long, drawn-out decline. The cartridges either work 100% out of the box or they go back.

I hope that by documenting my experiences I can help someone else make an informed decision about whether to buy these cartridges or not. Because of Sophia Global's customer service and the excellent price (⅓ ¼ of what HP wants!) I would probably say give them a chance. But I would also say to return the cartridges at the first sign things aren't working quite right.

So we have a "meh" on the cartridges and a "bodacious" on the customer service. A company that stands behind its merchandise to this extent is an endangered species nowadays. They deserve a chance.

I received the product on time. When I installed the cartridges they registered as empty. After I left my review the company contacted me ASAP, apologized for the issue and shipped another set. They have proven their dedication to customer service! :3
