The instructions included with the product were for a different cartridge design and didn't make much sense on top of that. It's not rocket surgery, you open it up, fill it with ink, and replace the colored fill plug, but not the clear air plug. Compared to more expensive cartridges, these lack any kind of filter medium inside the air intake, so dust intrusion might be a problem? The product info here on Amazon claims the cartridges cannot be used in the printer at the same time as OEM cartridges. I don't know why they say that, it is not explained anywhere. I loaded one of eight into my R1900 and the printer accepted it just fine, waiting for my other OEM carts to run out before replacing them.
If you have a bit of experience working with the ink system of your printer, and not scared about voiding the warranty, I recommend refillable carts, and these fit the bill.
UPDATE:
Initially I thought the air plug was just removed for filling the cart, but after my colors stopped working during a big print, I removed the plug, re-primed the heads, and the colors started going again. I printed several large prints without issue.
Second Update:
Ok, so these cartridges must be manual operation or something. Half the ink has leaked out while the printer sat dormant for a few days. The air-plug needs to be replaced when not printing!? What a pain in the arse. One of the black cartridges is leaking badly, heavy streaks of black ink on anything I print. Downgrading to two stars, sorry for the initial positive review. I have a bunch of aftermarket ink from a dead CIS system, I will limp along with these carts until the ink is used up, and then I think I'm going back to OEM ink carts.Good item purchased for a back up. Haven't had to use it yet and with any luck I won't have to !!
