This is the first time I have used a non Epson ink cartridge. When I installed it, the printer
responded with the message "Set Ink Cart". I removed and inserted it several times, getting the
same message. This is what I was afraid of. The printer did not recognize the chip on the cartridge.
Here's how I fixed the issue: I took the chip off the generic cartridge and replaced it with the chip
from the empty Epson brand cartridge. When I reinserted the cartridge the printer now read "Ink out",
as it thought I reinserted an empty cartridge. Ugh. To get it to work I had to reset the ink level counter in the printer.
Upside: The ink now works and I'm making prints. Downside: The printer thinks all the ink cartridges are full.
Unreadable chips are the #1 issue on 3rd party cartridges.
That said, I'm going to order more since I've gone this far.
