The chip resetter is cool, very easy to use. Don't think too much about it-just open your wallet and get one.The ink is good for our general family use. We don't do a lot of photos or high-grade printing, so I don't know how it would perform for that stuff. Homework? Fine. Recipes? Fine. Coloring book pages? Fine.
It's pretty expensive ink, considering the quantity in the bottles, but still cheaper than new cartridges by far. You will get some on you. Yes, you will. The first time you do it it will take some time too.
It's not shown in the Amazon description, but my kit came with a handheld drill bit device that you use to make the hole to put the ink in. If you use hot glue to seal up the holes you drill in the cartridges, be careful to keep the glue gun away from the plastic bottles of ink. They melt very easily. (yes, I did.) There are lots of youtube videos showing how to do this whole thing.
This kit comes with two bottles of black, and they are both DYE-BASED ink. My Canon MX850 printer uses 4 dye inks and 1 black pigment-based ink if I buy factory cartridges. The dye-based works ok for us as a cheap stand-in, but YMMV.
