A solution suggested by a reviewersoaking the printhead in isopropyl alcoholdid not work for me after several attempts and I was forced to order this printhead. I am happy to inform that it's a genuine HP printhead, and that it works. Within seconds after installing the new printhead the machine began a six minute, one time initialization at the end of which it began to print as before. Just make sure you order the right one for the right printer. (This printhead is the same as that sold by another vendor for much more).

I will admit, I was hesitant to shell out $60 for something that I wasn't sure was going to solve my "ink failure" problems. I have a love/hate relationship my HP Photosmart C309g printer ~ occasional wireless connectivity problems, high cost ink replacements (solved by refilling my own cartridges), scanner deciding to have bad days and just not work for no real reason ~ BUT, all of that aside, I thought it had given up the ghost when out of the blue I got the dreaded "ink failure" error code! I followed all other reviewer suggestions to soak my printhead in alcohol...I crossed my fingers, but ultimately had to purchase this replacement head, honestly not real sure if it would solve my problem. $60 is a bit to spend when you can purchase a brand new one starting at $100...but, I know how to work this printer so I hoped for the best!Long story short...it works...for now. At first I got some "error" stating I should have brand new ink cartridges installed in order to initialize the printhead ~ umm, can we say another way HP wants to get money out of us??? Guessing this is to prime the "ports" that pass the ink from the cartridge to the part that actually lays the ink on the paper (whatever these are called). My alignment stills shows "failed" when I try to do a "printer alignment" but the page prints fine ~ can't quite figure this one out. Regular pages are also printing fine so again, I just think it is the personality of my individual HP printer wanting to continue our love/hate relationship. Only time will tell if this printhead has ultimately solved my problem but I only use this printer for home/school stuff so I am predicting it will all be fine.
Bottom line...if you have followed all of HP's online support steps regarding printhead failure issues, and you have a printer that this printhead will fit into, then you will MOST LIKELY solve your "ink failure" problem for much less than it will cost to buy a brand new printer and everything that comes with getting one set up. This was something else I really wanted to avoid!
BTW, HP website shows it out of stock online yet chat rep says they have it in stock. (???) And, if you order online it will cost you $73 + shipping at approx. $11. Or order via telephone and they will give you a 15% discount. Hmmm, HP shenanigans, yet again??? Oh well, there are workarounds...that's why we shop here! >^..^
